Quit working after 1st use
I've had a counter-top icemaker before, but it went out after 18 months. I replaced it with this model, which quit making ice after ONE USE. I'm sending it back for a replacement, and certainly hope the replacement is better than this one. If not, it's back to buying bagged ice for me. *ugh*
Filled with mold and rust after only a half year!
Weeks ago, I would have given this icemaker a better review. We bought this icemaker just over a half year ago and have put it to good use. We clean it regularly and use only purified water in it. This week, the machine stopped working. We took the cover off and looked inside. This icemaker was filled with black mold and the ice pins were completely rusted. The white upper tray that holds the water in place while it freezes was completely brown. We wonder if this is what caused my bronchitis. I've had a very tough recovery and this could definitely explain it. I've contacted SPT twice now and have yet to hear a reply. If I do hear a reply (and it is a helpful one), I'll edit this review.
Works perfectly!
This was bought by a co-worker, we use it at work... the thing gets used day in and day out by everyone at work, it never fails us. Its quite the little workhorse and seems to be very well built and sturdy. We have had this in our workshop now for about 3 months and no problems. It makes ice fast too! About 15 minutes I would say. Great little unit and I can say we have had good experience with it - not sure about the other bad reviews I see here on Amazon.
UPDATE: it finally gave out and died Feb 2012... lasted about 1 1/2 years with daily use by a few co-workers. It worked great up until it died. RIP
